BESST Eco Holidays and Authentic Experiences
A wide range of accommodation, things to do and places to see are being developed through this transnational project.

Location Pictures

The Peak District (England), Fyresdal (Norway) and Hylte (Sweden) are all rural areas with long histories and strong traditions. Farms and forests. Lakes and rivers. Scattered towns and villages. Each place has its own unique blend of natural features shaped by human activities. The tourist facilities are run by local people, with a pride in their own place, its history, traditions and wildlife. There are no international hotel chains or theme parks here. BESST is developing a range of new ecotourism experiences.

Buy local products...made by local people… arts, crafts, furniture, food and drink. All distinctive items with local culture and tradition, inspired by these special places. Experience what's special...wild elk and eagles in Fyresdal. Ancient forests and lakes in Hylte. The traditional stone-walled farmland and heather moorlands in the Peak District. Savour local flavours...in restaurants and cafes….fish fresh from a Norwegian lake, wild boar from Hylte's forests or hot oatcakes with local cheese in the Peak District. Stay in traditional buildings...escape to a wooden chalet on a mountain in Fyresdal, sleep in a hay-loft on a farm in Hylte or relax in an old stone cottage in the Peak District. Take a walk, cycle or ride...find adventure and fun in Fyresdal, discover the Viking legend in Hylte's wilderness or step back in time with a Heritage Walk through the Peak District.

BESST is a new approach to boosting rural economies by helping small
businesses harness their greatest asset - the local environment - through small-scale tourism. BESST businesses must work to FIVE PRINCIPLES based on the concept of sustainable development. The project operates in the Peak District (Central England), Hylte (Southern Sweden) and Fyresdal (Southern Norway) as part of the EU's transnational collaboration programme for the North Sea region.
